I was away on a short trip to Malaysia the past weekend with some friends. Left on the 25th early morning about 5am and beat the jam at the checkpoint. We took the longer route up to Malacca to save on toll $ (lol!), and I tested my GPS toy which worked surprisingly better than back home.
It was mostly a shopping and a sightseeing trip. Visited the two shopping malls there, went to the night market, and had local food. I didn’t spend much, but I bought some snacks home. Oh ya, the movie tickets there are really cheap. It was about S$4.50 per person! We watched the High School Musical 3 there. It was nice, but wasn’t as good as the first two.
On Monday we shopped at Holiday Plaza and Plaza Pelangi in Johor before returning at about 8pm.
I’ve uploaded photos of my U.S. trip to Facebook.
Weather is very cold here (average of 5-10 deg C). Today there was showers of rain so I didn’t want to get out of the house. In the end I went to the seminary library to scan a book for my dad (photocopying here is relatively expensive – U.S. 10 cents per page). So I’m right now multitasking – scanning and surfing the net at the same time because this scanner software is slow.
I went shopping with my parents yesterday and got lots of goodies (sweets, chocolates & biscuits) for distribution when I return to Singapore. My dad also went for the Kentucky driving test and passed (international licenses are valid for a year only). The pizzas here are cheaper and tastier here in the U.S. than back home.
This week is the math week for the local college held in it’s library. The main highlight is an origami display (pictures to come later), and in the evenings there are different activities every day, like paper airplane classes (aerodynamics are taught), origami lessons, paper airplane and origami competitions and mini math oympiads.
Most of our needs here are met as the people here are generous and donate stuff to a charity pool for international students and families, and we can just get them for free; we didn’t have to shop for groceries other than once a week on Sundays.
My luggage and I have reached the U.S. safely. I have taken pictures and will be posting some when it’s uploaded to the computer.
The past 3 days (26-28th Dec) I was in Malaysia for a holiday. Just came back only. I had lots of “junk” mail (system generated) from many forums that I participate in, wishing me a happy birthday. Tomorrow I’m going for a steamboat dinner with a few classmates.
