My course in Australia has been confirmed. I have just recieved the letter of enrollment today.

Here are some details:

  • Where: Curtin University of Technology (map)
  • When: I’m leaving after CNY (End-Jan/Early Feb)
  • What: Studying BSc (IT), 2 year course (was 3)
The past two days I was sick with fever and was feeling very weak. Probably because I overexerted myself playing tennis on Saturday.
> On Sunday, my family attended my uncle’s cremation ceremony. Shall not elaborate any further on it.
Today, I had fun playing around with our FYPJ RFID system. Scanned tags and tried to find bugs on it. I was happy that our (my group’s) past weeks of effort is finally realized and can see the system running the way it should.

Today, I completed my part of the FYPJ (final year project) and is ready for integration testing. I feel so glad that it’s coming to a closure in two weeks time. I have learnt much from this unique project (it’s the most difficult of all the projects), and it’s a good feeling to see my programming turn to something useful. It was really boring at times, when I got stuck at certain errors in the codes, or when I’ve completed a part of the project and the supervisors are nowhere to be found. My supervisor said that was really pleased with my group’s performance during the informal meeting at the end of today. Hope I will get good results for my FYPJ to pull up my GPA (grade-point average).

After I logged off, I took the MRT to Marina Bay to meet my JG cell for dinner. My sis called me earlier to inform me about it. (The last time I was in Marina Bay I was in sec 1, for some BB outing.) We took a bus to some seafood steamboat restaurant nearby. The food wasn’t really my usual type, but it was edible. We got about 12 larger-than-average fresh crabs and four plastic containers of prawns (about 1-1.5kg). John, Justus and I went to help chop and wash up the crabs, although I didn’t do much. John did a very good job of chopping up the crabs (we only had one chopper). Everything else was self-service, from meat, noodles, rice, herbs, finger-food, satay, etc. It costs $12 per person, but was subsidised 5/6 of the cost. It was quite an enjoyable time, catching up with my cell, while having dinner together.

I also just realized I don’t blog that often. Usually it’s when lots of stuff happen in one day, or some memory that I want to remember next time, or some milestone or achievement, that I will write something about it.

Now I have somewhat suspended playing MapleStory and switched to PangYa. It’s a cool 3D golf game with cartoon/anime-like characters. Similar to Gunbound, but you hit the golf ball instead of shooting at your opponents.

Two weeks ago, I took the NAFPA test. Almost got a silver, but because I only could do three pull-ups (after going through the other stations). I usually could have done five, but I guess I was too tired. Maybe the next time I’ll try to request to do pull-ups first.

I finally bought my own web hosting and domain. My website is now at http://www.samliew.com.
Today, I took the NAPFA test in school. I was aiming for at least a silver. Did ok for all of the stations except pull-ups, which I just managed to pass. Guess I need to work on it before the next test.
I went to the gym after the test at around 6:30pm. Met Rosie and went out to dinner with her at pastamania. Reached home at 8:30pm and continued to work on my website after a bath.

Yesterday my ITIPJ final presentation went very well! Although the project wasn’t error free, it went smoothly enough to please the independant marker. If not for my good friend Rosie =), I wouldn’t have gotten an invitation to the distinction presentation (we declined the offer later as we felt that we do not have enough time to enhance our current project to qualify it for a distinction assessment. There are incomplete parts that make it not a fully integrated system and we are not able to complete it within a day.)

I also did relatively well for my Business Communication presentation.

This morning, I managed to enhance my website with the free weather feed from weather.com, which I also previously used in the ITIPJ. Now my visitors can see the current Singapore weather.

After my lunch, I went with my mother for the eye check-up in Mee Mee Optics (in Park Mall). I got a new pair of spectacles while I was there.

My mum got some weight gainers product for me from Nature’s Farm while on the way back as it was on offer (buy 1 get 1 free which also means 50% discount). Lots of people say I’m thin and have to eat more, especially my maternal grandmother. That product is best taken after exercising, which means I have to exercise more often.

Now some updates on the MapleStory SEA accounts:
MysticDoor (ice wizard) – level 41
MirackeKid (assassin) – level 57

Today for XML I had a practical test. I completed the test within 30 minutes and proceeded to check my answers, then as I had nothing much to do, I ‘enhanced’ the codes with CSS (and submitted both in the end). I don’t think I can get the full marks as there was one part I might have done incorrectly, which I had no idea on how to solve it.

EDIT: In the end I got 99/100 for the test.
